Community Fun Run/Walk and Meet the Candidates, TOMORROW!!

Monday, Sept 7th (Labor Day-so you can't use school or work as an excuse!) at Eagle Valley Elementary.

7am for the 5K/10K, run it or walk it. Bring the whole fam!

Plus there will be a kids race at 8:30!

Prizes will be raffled off after the kids race.

We're hoping for a great turn out, so come and join us!

We were staying with friends for a couple of days, then in hotels, and doing some theme parks. My little baby girl was just past 7 months when we went-and well into the high chair stage. Problem is, when on the road, high chairs aren't always available.

And if you've ever tried eating with a baby on your lap-especially one who is really into food, well, I don't need to explain why that's a hassle.

I should be getting ready to go camping, but I'll get to it in a bit.

My lawn may not be mowed perfectly, but my children are learning to work.

I should eat a healthy breakfast, but M&Ms taste so good.

My laundry may not be folded and put away, but at least it's clean.

I stayed up too late last night, but it was so nice to hang out, uninterrupted, with my husband.

My pants may be falling down, but that's better than being too tight.

My house may not be clean, but I helped my neighbor.

My hands may not be manicured, but my toes look great.

My baby girl is obsessed with shoes, but, um, so am I.

I may not be a great cook, but dang it-I can bake!

I may have eaten a half a dozen sweet rolls last Saturday, but I also ran 5 miles so it didn't count. (right?)

My kitchen may not be clean, but my living room is sparkling!

I know almost all of the words to all of the HSM soundtracks, but I'm not nearly as embarrassed about that as I should be.

I should worry that my son wears black socks with sandals when we leave the house, but I'm proud of him for doing it by himself.

I should finish the ironing, but it's so much more fun teaching my son to read.

I have snot and bits of oatmeal stuck to my shirt, but I've hugged and held my children today.

This is what happens

Anyone with kids knows that a family picture is interesting.

HA! Interesting! Boy isn't that putting it nicely.

Want to know what happens when you have seven kids and try to take a family picture?

Nothing fancy, just an attempt to capture everyone at a little family gathering.

We hand the camera over and ask the poor unknowning photographer to just take as many pictures as possible for a period of 2 or 3 minutes. Heck, we're optimistic!

Watch closely. (sorry, nothings cropped, so the background is kind of big)

Go ahead and scroll back through those.

Did you notice how #5 (far right) keeps moving further out until I grab him.

(after which he checks out his arm to make sure he's not damaged)

Notice that #6 (far left) is just having the time of his life.

And did you catch that my oldest daughter is posing?

Oldest boy is trying his darndest to look bored until Dad turns to check his facial expression.

And the lovely child on my chair-he goes for the subtle face making.

Charli kept trying to take off her shoes.

Then dear little middle daughter figured she'd just lean in as much as possible and try to look smug.

My Hubby is completely stoic. You'd think he's not enjoying himself or something. HA!

I won't even begin to comment on myself.

Oh joy.

And this is just a fraction of the total photos taken.

As soon as we get a copy of the one we decided to print, I'll share it. It's classic. I've decided that perfect family photos are HIGHLY overrated. At least for my family.

Hey, I'm just trying to keep it real. Why not look back in 20 years and remember what life was really like?

Maybe next week I'll share the one we tried to get of all the grandkids (disclaimer: 7 of the 8 are mine).

Channeling

Apparently my 2yr old is channeling the spirit of an 82 year old on vacation.

Hey, at least he got his shoes on.

Lessons in home safety

Last night as part of Family Night (and in hopes of a little more progress in the Cub Scout department), we talked about home saftey.

We reviewed what to do in a fire, our escape plans and meeting places.

We noted each of the smoke alarms in the house and how they work.

We talked about fire safety, never playing with matches, and what to do if you smell gas/propane.

Then as our little drive the point home activity, we talked about other little hazards around the house and how to make our home a safer place. The major focus there was keeping things where they belong, keeping the stairs clear, and the storage room free from garbage/debris/hazards.

Perfect timing as someone recently broke a glass ornament on the storage room floor. It needed straightening anyway, so we all got to work in the storage room.

As we were filing in (yes we all fit!), we passed the furnace and water heater, and the carbon monoxide detector.

One of the younger kids shouted out "Look! Another fire alarmer!"

Ever the voice of reason, one of our offspring of the older variety felt need to correct them.

"You're right, it's an alarm, but it's NOT a fire alarm," we heard in a superior tone.

"It is for something else. It's a Hydrogen Peroxide detector."

I slept well last night knowing we are safe from the dangers of a hydrogen peroxide leak.
